Prof. Thomas Studer, associate Professor for German as a Foreign Language/German as a Second Language at the University of Fribourg, is member of the board of directors at the Institute of Multilingualism as of 1 September 2009.

- Self-evaluation and external evaluation of communicative competence, particularly language portfolio and international certificates
- Research methods in language learning and teaching
- Task-based language learning and teaching
- Pluricentric aspects of German, also in view of regional and cultural characteristics
